Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions from our users - if you have a question please contact us!

What is the difference between an entry and a comment?

Entries are designed to be a well-polished, final "footnote" or "gloss". Remember, if an entry has no competing entries/ is the top-rated entry, it will sit directly opposite the default page. Therefore, try and keep it as relevant as possible!

Comments are there to allow people to talk about each other’s entries and to give their opinion! There aren’t so many rules governing this one. Just keep it decent and more-or-less on-topic!

What do I write in entries?

See How to use Tailored Texts.

Why does Tailored Texts only allow texts which are in their original language?

Tailored Texts was created to allow people to enjoy literature written in its own language. Whilst translations are a useful resource, we are trying to discourage people from relying on them too heavily.

Why are there different shades of colour in the highlighted text?

There are overlapping entries. See here for more information.

What do I do if there is an inappropriate entry or comment?

Please click on the flag button next to the entry/comment to report it to us.

What do I do if a text has a problem/contains inappropriate material?

Please click on the exclamation button on the toolbar to report the text to us.

What do I do if I want to quote a small passage of copyrighted work?

See here for some important information about referencing.
