Biography
Having graduated from Cardiff University, I worked in France as a lecteur while researching and writing my MPhil., on the works of Marcel Proust (concentrating on Proust's explicit writings on homosexuality through the pages of 'A la recherche du temps perdu,' and his creation of what I've defined as a homosexual utopianism). Following this, I returned from France and stayed on at Cardiff to write my PhD thesis which analyses spatial constructions of homosexuality in contemporary French gay prose fiction narratives. I have been an Associate Lecturer in French Studies at the School of European Studies at Cardiff University and have taught on both literary cultures and translations modules at degree level.
Now nearing the end of my PhD, I am putting together a post-doctoral project which will look at the challenges faced by translating French novels that contain genre (and country/culture) specific language and terminology with an emphasis on the translation of novels and stories with an LGBT-specific diegesis.
